A quick overview of what the DTR Scholarship offers.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered eligible, applicants must meet all three of the following requirements:
Grade 12 graduate in the same calendar year the scholarship is awarded.
This includes students graduating from Tumbler Ridge Secondary School (TRSS), other neighbouring secondary schools, or through a recognized home-school program.
Resident of Tumbler Ridge at the time the application is submitted.
Maintained residency in Tumbler Ridge for at least twelve (12) months immediately preceding the application deadline.

How to Apply
Submit a complete DTR Scholarship Application Form, including all required attachments, by May 15, 2026.

Completed application form
250-word essay (see essay topics below)
Letters of reference — two minimum (coach, teacher, instructor, supervisor, employer, etc.)
Transcript showing Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses completed and/or currently registered in
Essay Topics (250 words)
Topic 1
Your education and career goals.
Topic 2
Work experience and/or volunteering that provides an opportunity for success in your chosen program, career, occupation or future endeavors.
Topic 3
Brief outline of your interests, hobbies, other accomplishments and activities in the school and community involvement.

After You Apply
Here is what to expect once your application has been submitted.
Eligibility Review
District staff will verify all eligibility criteria. Applications that do not meet all eligibility criteria will not be reviewed by Council, and applicants will be notified in writing of the reason.
Council Review
Eligible applications are reviewed by Council at a Closed (In Camera) Meeting following the submission deadline. All applications and deliberations are treated as confidential.
Notification
All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome within five (5) business days of the Council decision. Council's decision is final.
Disbursement
Scholarship funds are disbursed upon receipt of proof of acceptance to, or enrolment in, a recognized post-secondary institution. Successful recipients have up to two (2) years from the date of the award to claim the scholarship. The scholarship may be presented by the Mayor or designate at an appropriate ceremony, which may include a graduation ceremony or a Council meeting.
